The transfer window is open and July 1st is a significant day in the calendar. Players’ contracts generally run until June 30th and they can officially move clubs from the following day. Kylian Mbappé’s contract with Real Madrid commenced on Monday after his deal with PSG expired but some players are yet to find new clubs.

While clubs across Europe will spend millions on transfer fees this summer, some will be eyeing some bargain deals for free agents. An abundance of players are now unattached and they hold huge appeal for clubs as they won’t command a transfer fee. Players will be able to talk to multiple clubs and weigh up their options ahead of making a final decision on their futures. But who are the most valuable free agents this summer based on Transfermarkt data? Let’s find out!

The most valuable free agents

Adrien Rabiot is the most valuable free agent at €35 million. The 29-year-old penned a one-year deal at Juventus last summer but he’s now departed the Italian giants to seek a new challenge. Rabiot has featured regularly for France at Euro 2024 and he’s attracting interest from AC Milan. Mario Hermoso ranks second after departing Atletico Madrid following five years at the Spanish giants. The 29-year-old made 174 appearances for Atletico and he’s been linked with moves to England and Turkey.

Guido Rodriquez is currently with the Argentina squad at Copa América but he’s without a club after leaving Real Betis. The 29-year-old is valued at €20m and he won’t be short of offers from European clubs this summer. Raphael Varane ranks 4th after Manchester United decided against offering the former French international a new deal due to his injury record. Varane is currently in talks with Como as they newly promoted Serie A side target an ambitious move. Wilfried Ndidi completes the top five after he declined the chance to remain at Leicester City after their promotion to the Premier League.
