It was all change for England during this international break with Lee Carsley replacing Gareth Southgate in the dugout. After heartache in the Euro 2024 final, Southgate decided to step aside after overseeing huge improvements across his eight years in charge with England regularly reaching the latter stages of international tournaments without being able to end their trophy drought.
Carsley was promoted from his role with the U21s and led England to comfortable wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland. While England haven’t won a tournament at senior level for almost 60 years, Carsley achieved glory with the U21 after winning the European Championships in 2023 – for the first time in 39 years. It was an incredibly talented England side that beat Spain in the final and Carsley handed two of those players – Angel Gomes and Morgan Gibbs-White – their senior debuts across the last week. But where are those players now? And how much are they worth? Let’s find out.
How much are England’s U21 Euro winning team worth now?
The starting England U21 XI from the 1-0 win over Spain in the final is now worth a combined €390 million. Cole Palmer is the most valuable player from that team at €80m after enjoying his breakthrough campaign after leaving Manchester City for Chelsea with his market value increasing by €62m across last season. As the graphic below shows, Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon – who started both England games during the international break – is the second most valuable player at €60m.
Palmer’s Chelsea teammate Levi Colwill is the third most valuable at €50m and he also started both games under Carlsey this month. Of the victorious U21 starting 11, seven players have been capped by England’s senior team with James Trafford and Curtis Jones also receiving call-ups without game time. Manchester United academy graduate Angel Gomes is the only starlet now playing abroad with the talented midfielder thriving in Ligue 1 with Lille.
