Ronaldo is no longer playing at the highest club level after moving to Saudi Arabia in December 2022 but he’s still performing on the international stage and scored two crucial goals for Portugal earlier this month.
Ronaldo has registered 132 goals for his country and over 850 across his club career that’s spanned over twenty years. The superstar made his name at Manchester United after joining from Sporting CP before becoming Real Madrid’s record goalscorer with 450 goals. Ronaldo embarked on a spell in Italy with Juventus before returning to Old Trafford to bring down the curtain on playing in the top five leagues. Ronaldo scored the most club goals under his fellow countryman José Mourinho at Real Madrid. The Portuguese superstar scored 168 goals in 164 games under Mourinho, while also providing 49 assists. Ronaldo averaged more than a goal per game under Mourinho and two other coaches during his career – Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez. As the graphic below illustrates, Ronaldo’s best goals per game record came under Ancelotti at 1.11 after netting 112 goals in 101 games.
Sir Alex Ferguson is credited with having the biggest impact on Ronaldo’s career after signing him as a teenager and developing him into a Ballon d’Or winner. The attacker netted 118 goals under the legendary Scottish manager, which ranks third on the list. Zinadine Zidane is the fourth coach that Ronaldo scored more than 100 goals for an he’s now working under his 19th manager in his club career after Stefano Pioli after Al-Nassr recently appointed the former AC Milan boss.
