Jamie Vardy continues to be one of the most inspiring stories in modern football. He didn’t make it to the Premier League until he was 27 years old. He was playing for non-league Halifax when he was 24. Yet the Leicester City legend, now at the age of 37, has 138 Premier League goals to his name, making him part of the exclusive Premier League 100 club. After a season in the Championship with the Foxes, in which they won the division, some questioned whether he still had the legs to compete in the English top-flight. But he has answered his critics with two goals in the first five league games of the season.
Whilst most of the players in the Premier League 100 club began scoring in the division early on in their careers, some, like Vardy, were more effective towards the end of their time as a professional. With this in mind, here at Transfermarkt, we have compiled a list of the players with the most Premier League goals scored after turning 30 years of age. Which stars aged like a fine wine? Some of the Premier League greats crop up on the list.
Players with most Premier League goals after turning 30
Unsurprisingly Vardy tops the list with 104 Premier League goals in 225 games since turning 30 years of age. He is the only player on the list to have scored 100+ goals in his 30s. In second place is Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who scored 93 goals in 169 games after turning 30 for the Gunners and West Ham. In third is the all-time top Premier League scorer Alan Shearer, who scored 84 of his 260 Premier League goals in his 30s. Fourth place goes to the only midfielder in the top 10 in Frank Lampard who scored 82 goals after turning 30 – for Chelsea and Manchester City.
In fifth place is Teddy Sheringham who played as many as 283 Premier League games in his 30s, scoring 77 goals. Manchester United, Portsmouth, Tottenham, and West Ham were the teams he represented since turning 30. In sixth is Peter Beardsley with 59 goals in 182 games for Everton, Newcastle and Bolton. Seventh goes to Gianfranco Zola who scored 59 goals in 229 games for Chelsea since turning 30. He is followed by another Chelsea legend in Didier Drogba, with 57 goals in 152 games for the Blues in his 30s. In ninth is Les Ferdinand with 57 goals in 189 games, and completing the top 10 is Paolo Di Canio with 54 Premier League goals in 153 games after turning 30.
