Ahead of the second international break this season, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 113 players in Liga Portugal. Once again, Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres towers at the very top of the market value ranking. The 26-year-old has had a spectacular start to the season and, as a result, has seen his market value rise to €70m, increasing his lead at the very top of the Liga Portugal market value ranking (overview).
“Gyökeres has increased in value in this update as he continues to perform at an incredible level here in Portugal,” Transfermarkt Portugal Area Manager Gonçalo Tristão Santos said. “His first season at Sporting was fantastic, making him one of the most appreciated players worldwide, and the 2024/25 season is no different.” Gyökeres has indeed been fantastic this season. The Swedish forward has managed an incredible 12 goals in 11 games across all competitions, including a goal in the Champions League. That will only enhance speculations about his future, further justifying his market value increase from €65m to €70m. “His new market value is the highest ever recorded in the Portuguese League, equaling João Félix’s value before his move to Atlético Madrid in 2019.”
No longer second in the ranking is Benfica talent António Silva. The 20-year-old center-back saw his market value decrease by €5m to now €40m. “Since the second half of last season, his performance has been below expectations, leading to a decrease in his market value in this update,” Tristão Santos said. “In the 2024/25 season, he even found himself on the bench when Benfica was still managed by Roger Schmidt but regained his spot with the return of Bruno Lage. He remains an up-and-coming player but has yet to replicate the impact he had in his first season with the first squad. Let’s see how the rest of the season goes for him.”
Liga Portugal market values: Conrad Harder among top talents updated
While Silva saw his market value drop, other talents around Danish forward Conrad Harder saw their market values improve. Signed for €19m from Nordjaelland this summer, Transfermarkt has adjusted his market value to reflect the transfer fee. “Despite having a market value of only 2 million euros, Harder cost Sporting 19 million, so his valuation would need to increase significantly,” Tristão Santos said. “He is only 19 years old but immediately impacted his new team, scoring a goal in his first start for Sporting in the league.”
Other talents with significant upgrades include 17-year-old Sporting talent Geovany Quenda, who received his first-ever market value jumping to €15m, and his teammate Zeno Debast. The 20-year-old Belgian defender saw his market value increase by €4m from €18m to €22m. Elsewhere, 18-year-old Porto defender Martim Fernandes saw his market value increase by 50% from €4m to €6m. Finally, at SC Braga, German-English defender Bright Arrey-Mbi saw his market value increase by 140% from €2.5m to now €6m.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
