Ronald and Frank De Boer. Michael and Brian Laudrup. Gary and Phil Neville. Yaya and Kolo Touré. Kevin-Prince and Jerôme Boateng. For some families, producing just one son who becomes a professional footballer isn’t enough. Down the years there have been numerous occasions where sets of brothers have made it pro and showcased their talents to the world.
Perhaps it’s the competitive nature of competing with your brother that spurs them on. Perhaps just being in and around a footballing family from such a young age. But who are the most valuable pairs of brothers currently playing? Here at Transfermarkt, we’ve compiled a list of the top 30 most valuable pairs, and it makes for some fascinating reading. Many top players you may not have even realised had a brother who is a footballer crop up on the list. Four pairs even accumulate a combined market value of €100 million or more.
The most valuable pairs of brothers in football right now
1. Jude and Jobe Bellingham – combined market value – €192m: Jude Bellingham (market value: €180m) has taken the footballing world by storm since his €103m move to Real Madrid, scoring 23 goals in just 39 games in La Liga and the Champions League last season. However, his less well-known brother, Jobe Bellingham (Mv: €12m), two years Jude’s junior, is making steady progress at Championship side Sunderland. Signed for €1.5m from Birmingham in 2023, he scored seven league goals from midfield last term.
2. Kylian and Ethan Mbappé – combined market value – €182m: The potentially longest transfer saga of all time was wrapped up this summer, with world superstar Kylian Mbappé (Mv: €180m) finally joining Real Madrid from PSG. The forward is the all-time top scorer for the Parisians with 256 goals, but he wasn’t the only Mbappé to leave PSG this summer. His younger brother, Ethan Mbappé (Mv: €2m) joined Lille on a free transfer, and the 17-year-old midfielder has already played three Ligue 1 matches this season for his new club.
3. Theo and Lucas Hernández – combined market value – €100m: The first pair on the list who have both already made it to the top of the game are 28-year-old defender Lucas Hernandez (mv: €40m), now back in his native France with PSG, having signed for Bayern Munich back in 2021 for a then-club-record fee of €80m. Meanwhile, 26-year-old Theo Hernandez (Mv: €60m) has become one of the best left-backs in the world with AC Milan over the last couple of seasons.
4. Marcus and Khéphren Thuram – combined market value – €100m: What a footballing family. Former defender Lilian Thuram remains France most capped player of all-time and now has two sons making their mark in the game. Marcus Thuram (€65m) has had a great start to life at Inter Milan following his move from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2023. Inter won the Serie A title last term, and Thuram got 13 goals and 13 assists in the league. He also has seven goals in seven games already this season. His younger brother Khéphren Thuram (Mv: €35m) moved from Nice to Juventus in a €20.6m deal this summer, so far making five Serie A appearances for the ‘Old Lady’.
5. Nico and Iñaki Williams – combined market value – €95m: Two brothers who represent the same club but different nations. Iñaki Williams (Mv: €25m) has been a regular up front, scoring goals for Athletic Club for almost 10 seasons now, and back in 2022 decided to represent Ghana at international level. His younger brother Nico Williams (Mv: €70m) has become one of the brightest young wingers in Europe and has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, after shining for Spain in their Euros triumph last summer.
6. Alexis and Kevin Mac Allister – combined market value – €81m: Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister (Mv: €75m) has made a big impact at Anfield following his move from Brighton and has been used across various roles in the Reds’ midfield. He actually faced his younger brother Kevin Mac Allister (Mv: €6m) in last season’s Europa League when Liverpool faced Belgian outfit Union SG in the group stages. Kevin is a centre-half by trade and has been a regular in the Belgian league.
7. Luis and Jesùs Díaz – combined market value – €80.15m: Luis Díaz (Mv: €80m) has become one of the most feared wingers in the Premier League with title challengers Liverpool. Unable to add the fearsome numbers of his opposite winger Mohamed Salah when it comes to direct goals and assists yet, but constantly mazing defenders with his relentless dribbling skills. However, you may not have known he has a younger 20-year old brother playing back in Colombia by the name of Jesús Díaz (Mv: €150k) playing for Barranquilla FC.
8. Jurrien & Quinten Timber – combined market value – €73m: The first twins on the list. Jurrien Timber (Mv: €38m) suffered heartbreak on his Arsenal debut last season, tearing his ACL back in August, but the Netherlands defender is back this term and looks set to be one of the Premier League’s best full-backs if he can stay fit this term. His twin brother Quinten Timber (Mv: €35m) is still playing in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord – a midfielder by trade, six goals and six assists in the Dutch top flight this season.
9. Rasmus and Oscar Højlund – combined market value – €67m: Rasmus Højlund (Mv: €65m) really picked up his form for Manchester United around the turn of last year, scoring seven goals in six Premier League games. The Dane moved from Atalanta for €73.90m in the summer of 2023. He also has a younger brother still plying in his trade in his native Denmark. 19-year-old midfielder Oscar Højlund (Mv: €2m) signed for Frankfurt this summer, after a breakthrough season at FC Copenhagen in which he came on in both legs against Manchester City in the Champions League.
10. Leroy and Sidi Sané – combined market value – €60.35m: Everyone knows about Leroy Sané (Mv: €60m) and the impact he has had on the game. A two-time Premier League winner with Manchester City, Sané is now one of the best players in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich. But many people won’t know his younger 21-year-old brother Sidi Sané (Mv: €350k) is also a professional with Bundesliga 2 side Braunschweig. Also a winger by trade, he was signed on a free transfer from Schalke in the 2023 summer.
