The transfer market remains closed until January but clubs are still extremely busy behind the scenes as they plan for future arrivals. Players all around the world have returned to their clubs after the international break for a pivotal period of the season, both domestically and in European competition.
Managers will be constantly assessing their squads with sporting directors and recruitment staff scanning the market for potential deals in the upcoming market. A plethora of players will be unhappy with their lack of minutes with their agents aiming to secure them a move to ensure first-team football for the second half of the season. According to British publication TeamTalk, Manchester United are set to make a concerted effort to sign Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies. The Canadian international has a contract with the Bundesliga giants until the end of the season, which means he can discuss terms with other clubs in January. The Old Trafford club are currently struggling to find a suitable long-term solution to their left-back problems, with Luke Shaw struggling to stay fit after numerous injuries and Tyrell Malacia also out injured.

Elsewhere, it seems as though the January transfer window will see another bidding war emerge for the signature of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. According to the Athletic, no less than four Premier League clubs – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham – are all desperate to sign the young winger, despite him coming close to a move to Barcelona in the summer.

Another player that could be subject to numerous bids from Premier League clubs next month is Tijjani Reijnders. The Dutch international impressed at Euro 2024 and is performing admirably well at AC Milan this season. According to CalcioMercato, such performances have alerted the interest of no less than three English clubs – Tottenha, Manchester City and Chelsea – who are all preparing bids for the 26-year-old talent.

One rumour that will likely rumble on beyond the January transfer window involves another Dutchman in the form of Xavi Simons. According to the Athletic, the on-loan RB Leipzig star still has a number of admirers in England and could be on his way to the Premier League next season. The publication state that should Paris Saint-Germain sell Simons, Liverpool and Arsenal are the leading contenders to sign the young playmaker .
