Patrick Kluivert has been appointed as the new manager of Indonesia. Since his retirement from football in 2009, Kluivert has taken up various coaching roles and was also academy director at Barcelona for almost two years. The 48-year-old also managed internationally with Curaçao but he only lasted five months in his last managerial role at Adana Demirspor.
But the Indonesia FA have decided that the former Barcelona and AC Milan striker is the man to lead them after sacking Shin Tae-Yong. On Monday, Indonesian football director Erick Thohir confirmed the dismissal of Tae-Young, stating: “We see the need for a leader who is better able to implement the strategies agreed upon by the players, and who has better communication.” And Kluivert’s appointment was confirmed on Wednesday with the Barca icon handed a two-year deal. The target for Indonesia is qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Indonesia currently rank third out of six teams in Group C of the Asian qualifications behind Australia and Japan.
