The January transfer market is now officially open, with clubs across Europe looking to get deals over the line to enhance their squads for the second half of the season. Teams are already working tirelessly behind the scenes on identifying targets to sign or loan.
Managers will be constantly assessing their squads with sporting directors and recruitment staff scanning the market for potential deals in the market. A plethora of players will be unhappy with their lack of minutes, with their agents aiming to secure them a move to ensure first-team football for the second half of the season. According to reports in Spain, Lionel Messi could return to Barcelona on loan. The Argentinian is the Spanish giants’ greatest ever player but departed for PSG in 2021 due to financial factors. But it’s been suggested that he could be heading back to Barcelona during the MLS off-season, once he pens a new deal with Inter Miami.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have reportedly rejected an initial offer for Frenkie de Jong from AC Milan. It’s claimed that the offer was €25 million plus €10m in add-ons with Barca holding out for a package of €45m.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Joshua Kimmich on a pre-contract deal as he’s available on a free in the summer from Bayern Munich.
