It was a thrilling final matchday in the Champions League and the Europa League with the standings constantly changing. The decision to reformat the major European competitions received criticism but it certainly increased the jeopardy across the final few matchdays.
The top eight clubs from each competition qualified automatically for the last 16 fixtures – scheduled to be played in March. But the clubs that finished between 9th and 24th place will now face a play-off to reach the last 16 and the draw took place on January 31st. The two-legged ties will take place in February and the draw has pitted some European giants against each other.
