Premier League update March 18th

The countdown is on. Come March 18, Transfermarkt will carry out the latest intermediate market value update in the Premier League. Before that, this is your chance to get involved! Who needs to be upgraded and why? Which players are valued too high and who could be in for a downgrade this spring?

Since the last Premier League market value update on December 16, no player has scored more goals in the English top-flight than Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Swede has 12 goals in 10 games in that period and at times has been unplayable. He also played a huge part in getting the Magpies to the EFL Cup final, tormenting one of the best centre-back pairings in Gabriel and William Saliba against Arsenal in the semi-finals. Isak has a current market value of €75 million, but right now is one of the most wanted strikers in world football. He has been linked with a number of top clubs, including Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool, with Newcastle likely to demand a huge fee to let him leave St James’ Park. However, his contract does only run until June 2028, so they may be inclined to sell sooner if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
Liverpool have had a wonderful season and could still complete a historic treble. They are 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League, in the EFL Cup final, and if they can get past PSG in the Champions League round of 16, they have a favourable route to the final. One big part of the Reds success has been Ryan Gravenberch. He has been converted by Arne Slot into a holding midfielder, and has already become one of the best of his trade. Anchoring the Liverpool midfielder, the Dutchman has been excellent both on and off the ball. Liverpool came close to splashing out big money to sign Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia in the summer of 2023 – the pair went to Chelsea for a combined €178.1m. With Gravenberch’s performances they will be glad they kept their money – he has a current market value of €55m but may be worthy of another upgrade this March.
One player who could be in serious danger of a downgrade this March is Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund. The Dane has just two Premier League goals this season, and hasn’t scored in the league since early December. He was signed for €73.9m in the summer of 2023, and saw his market value shoot up to €65m following that move. However, it has since fallen slightly to €60m, and he is likely to be downgraded further in this latest Premier League update. Højlund is currently the joint-23rd most valuable player in the entire league, and the joint-second most valuable player in the English top-flight aged 22 or younger. He still has potential but his output is not justifying that value right now.
Transfermarkt doesn’t use an algorithm, but instead relies on the wisdom of the community. Which is why your opinion counts. The only requirement before you can participate is to register as a Transfermarkt user. Then the market value analysis is open to you to discuss your assessments and arguments with other users. These discussions will eventually form the basis for our market values.
Ahead of the update on March 18, the Transfermarkt market value analysis is already discussing whether the market values of these players – and all other Premier League professionals – need to be adjusted in the latest intermediate update. In addition to the Premier League, the market value update for the 24 clubs in the Championship will be on March 28.
