The January transfer window is now little more than a distant memory in European football and as such clubs across the continent are already making plans for the summer window. Teams are working tirelessly behind the scenes on identifying targets and figuring out their budgets.
Managers will be constantly assessing their squads with sporting directors and recruitment staff scanning the market for potential deals. A plethora of players will become available in the summer where clubs famously have more money to spend and aren’t as restricted by financial fair play rules. The rumour mill is beginning to pick up pace and we’ve collated some of the biggest current transfer stories.
Today’s biggest transfer stories
Trent Alexander-Arnold has ‘agreed’ a five-year contract with Real Madrid, according to Sky Sports Switzerland. The 26-year-old’s deal at Liverpool expires in the summer and it’s highly unlikely he will extend his stay at his boyhood club with a move to Madrid expected.
Chelsea have reportedly joined the race to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club. The winger was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal and Barcelona last summer after standout displays for Spain in Euro 2024. Williams has a release clause in his contract and he’s likely to depart Bilbao this summer.
Galatasaray want to sign Ilkay Gündoğan this summer. The German midfielder returned to Manchester City last summer from Barcelona but he’s struggled with the demands of English football and the Turkish giants are ready to move.
