The January transfer window is now little more than a distant memory in European football and as such clubs across the continent are already making plans for the summer window. Teams are working tirelessly behind the scenes on identifying targets and figuring out their budgets.
Managers will be constantly assessing their squads with sporting directors and recruitment staff scanning the market for potential deals. A plethora of players will become available in the summer where clubs famously have more money to spend and aren’t as restricted by financial fair play rules. The rumour mill is beginning to pick up pace and we’ve collated some of the biggest current transfer stories.
Today’s biggest transfer stories
Southampton have reportedly set their asking price for young star Tyler Dibling at €120m (£100m) ahead of the summer transfer window. According to the Telegraph, the Saints will demand a fee higher than the €85m they received for Virgin van Dijk in 2018. The young winger’s market value has risen dramatically this season and currently stands at €25m.
Another young forward that could be on the move this summer for a huge transfer fee is Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike. According to the Sun, the young French striker is now Arsenal’s preferred attacking transfer target after they were price out of a move for Alexander Isak by Newcastle.
However, stopping their star striker from leaving the club apparently won’t thwart Newcastle in their attempts to bolster their own squad in the summer. According to the Times, Eddie Howe and his backroom staff are desperate to sign Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah this summer, in the hope that a €36m offer for the 22-year-old talent will be enough for the Anfield club to part ways with the player.
