Currently seven of the 20 teams that make up the Premier League reside from the UK’s capital city. On a good day, within three hours of driving you could visit all seven different stadiums of the London clubs currently in the English top-flight. Just four miles separate Arsenal and Tottenham. There’s just 1.7 miles between Chelsea and Fulham. From this naturally comes great rivalry between the London clubs. Arsenal beat Fulham 2-1 on Tuesday at the Emirates, and there’s another huge London derby this Thursday, as Tottenham go to Stamford Bridge.

Often the argument arises as to who is the biggest London club, and where each team ranks on that particular list. London clubs have won the Premier League eight times in 32 seasons, with Chelsea claiming five trophies and Arsenal three. However, it’s very hard to define that metric of who is a bigger club, with many myriad factors usually coming into play, such as global fan base and trophies won. To try and add some context from the recent era, here at Transfermarkt, we have calculated the head-to-head records from all London derbies in the Premier League since the division’s inception in the 1992/93 season, and then ranked each side based on their points-per-game (ppg) from these matches.

The head-to-head records between London clubs in the Premier League era

Across the years, 10 London teams have been in the Premier League points since the 1992/93 season, and it’s very close between the top two when it comes to the head-to-head table. Nevertheless, the London side who have enjoyed the most derby days are Arsenal, who have taken a grand total of 574 points from their city rivals in the Premier League era, and with a ratio of 1.85ppg. In second place come Chelsea with a total of 558 points and a record of 1.81ppg. They will be hoping to add this against Spurs this Thursday. Speaking of Tottenham, they come in at third with 1.37pgg and a total of 423 points.

Brentford, who were only first promoted to the Premier League in the 2021/22 season, boast an impressive record in their London derbies. They actually come fourth on the list with 1.35ppg and 58 points taken. Fifth goes to former side Wimbledon FC, who were liquidated in 2004, but before that took 1.16ppg and a total of 86 points. West Ham are sixth with 1.13ppg, followed by Charlton in seventh with 1.11ppg. QPR take eighth position with 1.01ppg, followed by Crystal Palace with 0.91ppg. Fulham have had their fair share of tough derby days and are last on the list with a record of 0.89ppg.
