Football is a global game. In the Premier League alone, 126 nationalities have been represented in the division’s 33-year history. Those players coming from as far and as wide as South America and Oceania. Each player in the modern game has a diverse history and unique origin. However, there are a number of examples of players who share the same last name in the current game. And this got us thinking, what are the most valuable surnames in football right now?
To calculate this, here at Transfermarkt, we have amalgamated every last name with two or more players with a current market value of €1 million or more, and ranked them by the highest combined market values of each name. For the purposes of this article, accents on names have been ignored. So which surnames are dominating at this moment in time? Let’s find out – the top 20 can be scrolled through below.
The most valuable last names in football right now
Leading the way in first place is the last name of ‘Martinez’. Currently there are 26 players worth €1m+ with that surname, combining for a total market value of €236m. The most valuable of the group are Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez (€95m), Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez (€45m), and Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martínez (€25m). In second place is the surname ‘Bellingham’. Solely coming from the brothers Jude Bellingham (€180m), and Jobe Bellingham (€22m), the last name gathers a total value of €202m. In third is ‘Mbappe‘ at €175m – once again just from a pair of siblings in Kylian Mbappé (€170m) and Ethan Mbappé (€5m).

In fourth place is the last name of ‘Alvarez‘ which gathers a combined market value of €170m. 13 different players contribute to this – the most valuable of which is Atlético Madrid’s Julían Álvarez (€90m). In fifth is ‘Diaz‘ at €158m – from 13 players, including Liverpool’s Luis Díaz (€85m). Sixth goes to ‘Fernandez‘ with 26 players combining for a value of €150m. Next up, it’s ‘Garcia‘, with 28 players coming together for a market value of €146m. Then it’s ‘Palmer‘, with just three players, including Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (€130m) making a market value of €132m. Ninth goes to ‘Rodriguez‘ with as many as 39 players combining for a €131m market value, whilst ‘Silva‘ completes the top 10 at €118m.
