It’s impossible to downplay the importance of agents in modern football with clubs liaising with them on a daily basis. The undeniable power they hold has led to significant criticism over the years but they remain paramount for players. From negotiating contracts, working on transfers and liaising with their clients on a daily basis, agents are constantly on the move.
The English top-flight is the richest league in the world with every agent holding the aim of transferring their players to the Premier League. Players can pay agents a percentage of their weekly wage but they will also earn fees for completing transfer deals and new contracts. Premier League clubs pay eye-watering fees to agents and the Football Association have released the figures for between February 2024 to February 2025.
Which Premier League clubs paid most to agents ?
The financial statistics encompass the two transfer windows from the current 2024/25 season – summer 2024 and January 2025. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Chelsea rank top with €70.2 million spent on agent fees across the aforementioned period. The Blues have spent €276m on transfers across this season with Pedro Neto their highest at €60m. Manchester City rank second with €60.7m but there’s a considerable gap to third placed Manchester United in third at €38.4m.
As the graphic above illustrates, Aston Villa (€29.2m) and Newcastle United (€28.4m) complete the top five. Despite being on the verge of winning their 20th English top-flight title, Liverpool only rank seventh on agent fees with Tottenham down in ninth – Daniel Levy is a notoriously shrewd operator. Interesting, Ipswich Town are the only current Premier League club to spend less than €10m on agents fees this season.
