Cristiano Ronaldo has suffered more heartbreak at Al-Nassr after the Saudi Pro League club were eliminated in the AFC Champions League. AL-Nassr were huge favourites to progress to the final against Al-Ahli on Saturday but they were shocked by Japanese side Kawasaki.
Al-Nassr dominated the encounter but Kawasaki earned a famous 3-2 lead, despite sitting eighth in the Japanese top-flight. Sadio Mané scored for Al-Nassr but Ronaldo missed a glorious late chance to equalise in the Asian equivalent of the Champions League. Despite scoring at an impressive rate since joining AL-Nassr in 2023 after leaving Manchester United, Ronaldo’s quest to win major silverware in the Middle East continues.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s trophy drought at Al-Nassr
Ronaldo will go down in history as one of the greatest footballers of all-time and the 40-year-old boasts a glittering silverware collection. The Portuguese attacker has won five Champions Leagues, three English Premier League titles and he’s won the league in Spain and Italy on two occasions. Ronaldo also won Euro 2016 with Portugal and he’s lifted the prestigious Ballon D’Or trophy five times – second only to Lionel Messi.
But Real Madrid’s record goalscorer has failed to lift a single major trophy with Al-Nassr and his curse continued against Kawasaki. Despite scoring 91 goals in 101 games with AL-Nassr, Ronaldo has failed to win the Saudi Pro League, the AFC Champions League or any of the domestic trophies. There’s been numerous reports that he will extend his stay at Al-Nassr but Ronaldo is yet to sign a new contract and his current deal expires in June to leave his future uncertain.
