The 2024/25 Premier League season has thrown up plenty of enthralling storylines. The first ball was kicked when Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United played Fulham all the way back in August and won thanks to a last-minute Joshua Zirkzee goal – which now seems an age ago. Eight months on, Liverpool have won the title in Arne Slot’s first season in charge, all three promoted teams were relegated (again), and Nottingham Forest have made an unlikely charge for Europe. And with the latest Premier League May market value update now complete, we can see which players suffered the most in terms of market value across the campaign. We have calculated this by comparing all current Premier League player’s market values at the start of the season on July 1, 2024 and now after the May update.

The Premier League players to lose most market value this season

The player with the unwanted feat of being first in this category is none other than Manchester City’s Phil Foden. The 2023/24 player of the season has endured a miserable campaign, and has been on the substitutes bench for most of the season’s run-in. Across the campaign his market value has dropped by a whopping -€50m from €150m to €100m. In second place is West Ham’s Lucas Paquetá, who has suffered a -€37m drop to €28m across the season. Third goes to Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus, who is currently out with an ACL injury and has seen his market value fall by -€33m to €32m across the campaign.

Up next are a trio of Man City players in fourth, fifth and sixth. Jack Grealish has seen his market value drop by -€32m to €28m, Bernardo Silva has seen his market value fall by -€32m to €38m, and Kevin De Bruyne’s market value has fallen by -€30m to €20m. In seventh is Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, whose market value has dropped by -€30m to €35m. Rasmus Højlund’s market value has also fallen by -€30m to €35m. James Maddison is ninth with a -€28m drop to €42m, while Man United defender Matthijs de Ligt has fallen by -€27m to €38m.
