The Süper Lig becomes the last major European league to receive a market value update this spring. Altogether, 512 players playing in the Turkish first division received new market values. The most valuable player in the league remains Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen with a market value of €70m. The Nigerian forward is on loan from Napoli and is expected to move on this summer, with Saudi Arabia and the Premier League being potential destinations.

Indeed, the entire top three remains unchanged. Fenerbahçe’s Youssef En-Nesyri (€24m) and Osimhen’s teammate Gabriel Sara (€22m) round out the top three most valuable players in the Süper Lig. Just a bit further down the list in fourth and fifth are Galatasaray stars Barış Alper Yılmaz and Davinson Sánchez. The two are up by €1m each to €21m and 20m respectively.

It wasn’t all good news at Galatasaray. Galatasaray’s Spanish star striker Álvaro Morata saw his market value increase by 15.4% from €13m to €11m. On loan from AC Milan with an obligation to buy, Morata arrived for a €6m fee last February and scored six goals and three assists in 12 Süper Lig games. A goal every second game is a decent scoring rate, but Morata is already 32 and, as a result, a downgrade was inevitable. Also down is his teammate, Mauro Icardi. The Argentine prima donna is also entering the twilight of his career and dropped by €2m from €11m to €9m.

Süper Lig market values: Fenerbahçe’s Yusuf Akçiçek the biggest winner

Among the players with the most significant market value upgrades is 19-year-old Fenerbahçe talent Yusuf Akçiçek. The center-back saw his market value increase by 118.5% from €5.5m to €12m. It is the second-largest upgrade based on percentage, behind Hüseyin Maldar from Eyüpspor. The 18-year-old striker saw his market value increase by 180% from €150,000 to €350,000. But based on pure market value, Akçiçek’s €6.5m increase is the biggest of the Süper Lig update.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
