Who were the biggest winners?

Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 24 players in the Norwegian Eliteserien League this March. It’s a division that has become renowned for producing great young talent in recent years. Manchester City paid Rosenborg €15 million for midfielder Sverre Nypan in the summer, whilst superstars such as Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard have emerged from the division in recent times.
With no domestic football between November and March, it’s European exploits that dominate the changes – which naturally brings us to Bødo/Glimt. The Norwegian side from within the Arctic Circle have shocked everyone in the Champions League this season and are currently on the verge of heading to the quarter-finals, after winning their round of 16 first leg tie against Sporting 3-0. They have also beaten Manchester City and last season’s finalists Inter Milan.

Bødo/Glimt talents on the rise
As many as 11 of the 22 players to receive an upgrade this March play for Bødo. The biggest beneficiary was winger Jens Petter Hauge. The 26 year old saw his market value rise by +€7.5 million to a new figure of €12m – making him the joint most valuable player in the league. Hauge has scored six goals in the Champions League this season and is already being linked with top five league clubs. The second biggest winner was Bødo striker Kasper Høgh; the 25 year old’s market value increased by +€4m to €12m. He has scored five Champions League goals this term.
There were +€2m increases for both 22-year-old full-back Fredrik Sjøvold (new value: €10m), and 27-year-old centre-half Odin Bjørtuft (€4.5m). Meanwhile, centre-midfielder Håkon Evjen (€5m) and winger Ole Didrik Blomberg (€3.5m) both saw their market values rise by +€1.5m. There were then +€1m increases for a further four Bødo players. Question marks have already been raised as to whether this team may be somewhat ripped apart in the summer transfer window by Europe’s richer clubs after their heroic campaign.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
