60x his market value

Brighton have announced the signing of Nigerian starlet Zadok Yohanna from AIK for a reported record-breaking transfer fee. Yohanna, who has a current market value of €500,000, has completed the move to the Amex Stadium for an undisclosed fee, per the Premier League club’s statement. However, reports suggest the Seagulls have paid a reported €28 million fee, with a further €2 million in add-ons – a new Allsvenskan record. If the deal satisfies the criteria for those add-ons, it would represent an amount 60 times larger than his market value at the time of signing.
Yohanna, 18, has been earmarked as a huge talent for the future and it’s no surprise that Brighton have got the deal over the line, with their proclivity for plucking unearthed gems from around Europe via their extensive scouting system. The Seagulls have pulled off a coup after apparently beating Chelsea and Newcastle United to the signing of the promising teenager, handing him a five-year contract until June 2031.

As the graphic above shows, his switch has broken the record for the highest transfer fee received by Swedish club, previously set when Tottenham signed Lucas Bergvall from Djurgården for €20 million in 2024. Yohanna follows Malick Yalcouyé in moving to the South Coast after the Ivorian midfielder joined from IFK Goteborg in 2025 for a €7 million fee, the 11th-most expensive fee received by an Allsvenskan club.
Yohanna began his career at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria before joining AIK in 2025. He made a quick impression in the Allsvenskan, scoring two goals and assisting another three in seven appearances. Head coach Fabian Hürzeler has been keeping a close eye on his development, suggesting he will be involved in the first-team squad for the 2026/27 season.
“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok. Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player that can impact games in the final third,” Hürzeler said. “He’s still young, and will need time to adapt to the club and Premier League, but he’s an exciting player to watch and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy. He’s dynamic, has pace and likes to take players on. His attributes and ability will be a real addition to our attacking options.”
