The World Cup is finally upon us with the most global competition in football getting underway this Thursday when joint-hosts Mexico take on South Africa. Supporters from around the world will descend on North America with games played across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The 23rd edition of the World Cup will feature the most teams in history with the tournament expanded to 48 nations.
This World Cup will feature nations from six different continents; Africa, Asia, Europe, North/Central America & the Caribbean, Oceania, and South America. Which clubs will have the most players at the World Cup?
Incredibly, Manchester City will have 19 players at the competition, including the joint-most valuable player in the world in Erling Haaland. The 25-year-old is featuring at his first ever World Cup after firing Norway to qualification and he will come up against club teammate Rayan Cherki in their final group game. Bayern Munich are unquestionably one of the biggest clubs in Europe and they have provided 17 players, including England captain Harry Kane and Germany starlet Jamal Musiala.
As the graphic above illustrates, Arsenal will have 16 different players at the World Cup and they are closely followed by their Champions League conquerors PSG. Barcelona complete the top five with Lamine Yamal aiming to inspire Spain to glory after announcing himself at Euro 2024. Of all the teams with double figures of players at the World Cup, Al-Hilal (12) are the only non-European team and Crystal Palace will have more players than Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
