Ross McCrorie has agreed his return to Rangers and will become Derek McInnes’ first signing of the summer, since he was appointed manager. McCrorie will represent the second new addition for Rangers after Lawrence Shankland’s arrival from Hearts with both players previously working under McInnes. On Wednesday afternoon, McInnes was officially unveiled as Rangers boss at Ibrox stadium and Transfermarkt understands that McCrorie will be announced on Thursday morning.

The utility player had one year left on his contract at Bristol City and Transfermarkt understands Rangers will pay just over €1 million (£900k) for the Scotland international. McCrorie progressed through the youth ranks at Rangers before joining Aberdeen permanently in 2021 after a successful loan spell before moving to Bristol City in 2023. But he will now return to Rangers and reunite with McInnes, who he played 30 times for at Aberdeen during the 2020/21 campaign.

McInnes signed McCrorie for Aberdeen on-loan from Rangers with an obligation-to-buy and he previously labelled him a ‘Rolls-Royce’ and praised his determination not to settle as a squad player. Speaking in 2020, McInnes said: “He didn’t want to be in the shadows, he didn’t just want to be a Rangers squad player, he wanted to get out and get on with his career, and I love that about him.” McCrorie is expected to challenge Dujon Sterling for a starting berth at right-back next season and also provide cover in central midfield.
