The transfer window doesn’t officially open until June 15th but clubs are already finalising the deals. Anthony Gordon’s impending move from Newcastle United to Barcelona is unquestionably the biggest story of the summer, so far. Transfermarkt reported that the two clubs had reached an agreement on an €80 million fee for the England international and a sell-on percentage has been inserted.
There will be no issue over contract details with Gordon heading to Spain to finalise the deal with all parties aiming for a conclusion before he jets off to the United States for the World Cup. Gordon will become Newcastle United’s second biggest sale in history and they will need a substantial profit on the €45.6m they paid Everton to secure his signature in 2023 – crucially the profit will be significantly higher than his book value for PSR. Gordon has been a standout performer for Newcastle in recent seasons and attention will turn towards replacing him. It will be a very busy summer for the Magpies as they transform their squad and we’ve analysed five talented options to replace Gordon, with market values under €50m.
Five Newcastle United transfer options to replace Anthony Gordon
Said El Mala has enjoyed an incredible breakthrough season at FC Köln to establish himself on the radars of top European clubs. The 19-year-old returned to the Bundesliga club from his loan spell at Viktoria Koln last summer and registered 18 goal contributions in the German top-flight. To contextualise that output, only Lamine Yamal, Yan Diomande and Nico Paz registered more goal contributions in the top five leagues. El Mala has been deployed as a left-winger and striker and that versatility should appeal to Newcastle. His omission from the Germany squad caused significant bewilderment as he’s viewed as a potential superstar in his homeland. El Mala’s market value increased to €45m in the latest Bundesliga update and Koln have rebuffed an offer from Brentford for around that figure recently.
Mika Godts is one of the most exciting young wingers in European football and has been the shining light in an abject season for Ajax. The 20-year-old registered an incredible 32 goal contributions in 44 games for the Dutch giants last season and he’s attracted interest from Bayern Munich, Barcelona and a host of Premier League clubs. It’s understood that Newcastle also retain an interest in Godts, who is a natural left-winger and would be a direct replacement for Gordon. Ajax will field offers for their prized asset this summer with Godts’ market value increasing to €40m in the latest Eredivise update.

Antonio Nusa represents a fascinating option and Transfermarkt understands that Liverpool remain interested in the RB Leipzig star. Nusa joined the German club from Club Brugge for €21m in 2024 but he’s yet to truly deliver on his immense potential. His attacking numbers are far from impressive with 21 goal contributions for Leipzig in 71 games and that output should be a concern for any potential English suitors, given it’s considerably easier to deliver goals and assists in the Bundesliga than the Premier League. Nevertheless, Nusa remains a highly-rated left-winger and he possesses all the attributes to develop into an elite attacker.
It’s understood that Matias Fernandez-Pardo is on Newcastle’s shortlist this summer but it could be a difficult deal to complete. Lille ensured Champions League qualification next season and that could convince Fernandez-Pardo to continue this development at the Ligue 1 club. The 21-year-old scored eight goals and provided five assists in the French top-flight last season, which ranks him in the top ten for goal contributions for U21 players across the top five leagues. Fernandez-Pardo has been named in the Belgium squad for the World Cup and his reputation will only increase, if he can make an impact on the biggest stage. The versatile attacker’s profile is hugely enticing due to his mix of physicality and technical skills, while he’s equally as comfortable on the left-wing or as a central striker.
Transfermarkt expects Christos Tzolis to depart Club Brugge this season after his outstanding campaign for the Belgium club as they clinched the title. The 24-year-old registered a remarkable 51 goal contributions in 52 games for Brugge and he’s a player in demand. Aston Villa, Manchester United and Juventus have all been linked with his market value currently €30m – the lowest of all players on the list. Obviously concerns over a deal for Tzolis will be the substantial step-up between the Jupiler Pro League and he hardly excelled for Norwich City. Tzolis’ preferred position is on the left-wing but he can play all across the front line and as an attacking midfielder.
