It’s been a time of true relief, ecstascy and jubilation in the streets of North London for this last couple of weeks. After 22 years of heartbreak, Arsenal fans have been able to finally celebrate being Premier League champions again. The Gunners sealed the title after Bournemouth took a point off of Man City, and it’s been a party atmosphere ever since, with Mikel Arteta and his team lifting the famous trophy last Sunday after their final day win at Crystal Palace. But it could still get better…

This Saturday, Arsenal will head to Budapest for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. It’s just the club’s second ever final in the competition, and they are essentially now one win away from their best ever season. An enormous amount of credit must be given to Arteta and his team if they can get over the line and do the double. They have now won a club-record 45 matches across all competitions, but where does that rank among the most wins ever for a Premier League team in a single season? Let’s find out.

Most wins in a season by a Premier League team

Arsenal still remain someway off the record which was set by Manchester City in the 2018/19 season, in which Pep Guardiola’s team won an incredible 52 matches from the 61 games they played. They won the Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup and got to the quarter-finals of the Champions League that season. In second place are Liverpool in the 2021/22 season. In the end, they missed out on the Premier League by a point and lost the Champions League final, but did win the FA Cup and EFL Cup and racked up 49 wins across the season. Guardiola’s Man City then take third and fourth having won 47 matches in the 2020/21 season and 46 games in the 2017/18 ‘Centurions’ campaign.

Manchester United recorded their most ever wins in a single campaign in the 2008/09 season, where they won 46 matches – that takes fifth spot. Arsenal now already rank sixth on the list with 45 wins from the 62 matches they have played this season. If they now go on to beat PSG in this Saturday’s Champions League final, they would go to joint fourth with 46 wins.

Guardiola’s Man City return again in sixth and seventh, after 44 wins in each of the treble winning 2022/23 season and the 2023/24 campaign. Liverpool managed 43 wins in the 2019/20 season when they won their first ever Premier League title under Jürgen Klopp. Chelsea complete the top 10, having won a club-record 42 games in the 2004/05 season under José Mourinho. Arsenal are on the verge of making club history and completing one of the most successful seasons ever seen in Premier League football.
