The San Jose Earthquakes have signed Scottish national team goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Gunn joins the Earthquakes as a free agent after his deal with Premier League side Nottingham Forest expired at the end of the 2025/26 season and has signed a contract through the end of the 2029/30 Major League Soccer season. Gunn represented the Scottish national team at the World Cup, conceding four goals in three games as Scotland were eliminated in the group stages.

“We’re pleased to sign a quality goalkeeper in Angus Gunn with English Premier League and international experience, most recently as a starter at the World Cup,” Earthquakes sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a club statement. “We’re looking forward to integrating him into the club for the second half of the season and welcome him to San Jose.”

With the Gunn deal completed, the Earthquakes are now expected to trade their no. 1 goalkeeper Daniel to FC Dallas. The switch up in goal is somewhat surprising; Daniel managed five clean sheets for the Quakes this season, leading the club to the fifth-best defence in the league. Gunn, however, is two years younger and with Dallas interested in Daniel, who has two club options built into his contract after this season, this looked like a good opportunity to upgrade the roster for Arena.
