Erling Haaland reached a landmark in his Manchester City career as he opened the scoring against Arsenal in the Premier League title clash on Sunday and he also made history. The Norwegian superstar notched his 100th goal for the English champions, in all competitions, with an instinctive finish beyond David Raya.
It was remarkably already Haaland’s tenth goal of the season with the 24-year-old hitting double figures in the league after just five games. Incredibly, Haaland required just 105 games to register 100 goals for Man City, which is the joint-quickest of any player alongside Cristiano Ronaldo – across the top five leagues since 2000. Haaland and Ronaldo are two of the greatest goalscorers in history but which other stars raced to 100 goals the quickest for their clubs? Let’s find out!
The quickest players to reach 100 goals for their clubs
Haaland has scored goals at an incredible rate since moving to Man City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Transfermarkt’s joint-most valuable player in the world could have eclipsed Ronaldo’s Real Madrid record last Wednesday in the Champions League against Inter Milan but he failed to score before equalling the Portuguese superstar against Arsenal. Ronaldo also needed just 105 games to score 100 goals for Madrid after moving to Manchester United in 2009 – he averaged more than a goal per game under three coaches with the Spanish giants.
As the graphic above illustrates, Ronaldo features twice on the top ten list after reaching the 100 goal milestone with Juventus in 131 games – level with Ruud van Nistelrooy. Some of the most iconic strikers of the last two decades are included with Luis Suárez claiming third spot after bringing up his century of goals with Barcelona in just 120 games. The only player in the top ten list that didn’t predominately play as a striker is Kylian Mbappé with the French superstar often featuring on the left for PSG.
