We have reached the stage of the season where the fixtures come thick and fast in English football. Whilst many other top leagues wrap things up for Christmas with a winter break, the Premier League is crammed with games, and its an integral part of the season. This December there will be as many as 63 matches in the English top-flight, with each team on average playing six Premier League games. It’s often a period in the calendar where squads are stretched to the max, and teams can quickly pick up points and rise up the table.

The month of December is likely to have a huge effect on the final outcome of the 2024/25 Premier League season, but which teams historically show the best form during the chaotic festive period? Here at Transfermarkt, we have calculated the teams with the highest number of total points in the month of December since the Premier League’s inception in the 1992/93 season to determine which sides are usually the most effective in the final month of the calendar year.

The teams with the most overall Premier League points in December

Leading the way is the club with the most Premier League titles in Manchester United. They have won the league 13 times since 1992/93, and in the month of December taken a total of 383 points from 182 matches. New manager Ruben Amorim will be hoping history repeats itself this year, as the Red Devils look to climb from their current league position of 12th place. They made a good start getting the three points against Everton in a 4-0 win. Second overall for points taken in December are Liverpool with a total of 348 points accumulated from 178 games, including their huge 2-0 win against Man City on Sunday. If they have a strong end to the year this time around, it could help the Reds lift just their second Premier League title.

In third place come Chelsea who moved to 327 December points accumulated in 180 matches with their 3-0 win against Aston Villa. Fourth position goes to Arsenal who have 314 points from 179 games. Tottenham are fifth with 298 points from 177 December matches. Current champions Man City are sixth with a total of 251 points in 152 matches. Everton come seventh with 241 points in 176 games. They are followed by Aston Villa in eighth who have 195 points in 155 games. Newcastle come in ninth with 193 points in 160 games, and West Ham complete the top 10 with 189 points in 156 matches.
