Club World Cup draw: Lionel Messi to face Palmeiras - English clubs with easy draws

The groups of the new Club World Cup have been determined at a draw in Miami, where the opening game will take next summer. Supporters’ Shield winners Inter Miami CF with superstar Lionel Messi were drawn into Group A, which also includes Palmeiras (Brazil), Porto (Portugal) and Al Ahly (Egypt). The Seattle Sounders, who will host games as well, have been drawn in a group with Paris Saint-Germain (France), Atlético Madrid (Spain), and Botafogo (Brazil).

Two Premier League clubs were also involved in the draw. Chelsea were drawn into Group D with Flamengo (Brazil), Espérance Sportive (Tunisia) and Club Léon (Mexico). Manchester City have been placed in Group G with Wydad (Morocco), Al-Ain (UAE) and Juventus (Italy). Both Chelsea and Man City will be considered favorites in their respective groups.

Altogether 32 teams will take part at the new Club World Cup, which will take place from Jun. 15 to Jul. 13, 2025 in the United States. The group stage includes eight groups with four teams each and the first and second place team will advance to the knockout stage.
