A cult hero has returned to Craven Cottage in one of the most dramatic deadline day deals. Brazilian winger Willian has signed for Fulham as a free agent, having only left the club for Olympiacos last summer. The 36 year old scored nine goals in 58 appearances for the Cottagers in his first spell at the club. He also won the Premier League with Chelsea, before an underwhelming spell at Arsenal. In total Willian has made 317 appearances in the Premier League and scored 47 goals, while providing 46 assists. He will wear the number 22 shirt.

His short time in Greece with Olympiacos was marred by injuries. He failed to score in his few outings and recorded only one assist. The veteran has made 70 caps for his native Brazil, scoring nine goals for his nation. Speaking a club statement, Willian said, “I’m really happy to be back here. I think it’s a great opportunity again to play for this Club, and I’m fully motivated to get on the pitch and do things well for this Club.”

Fulham’s impressive 2-1 win at Newcastle on Saturday saw them climb to ninth and they are only seven points short of the top four. The club will be hoping Willian can boost the west London club in their pursuit of European football under Marco Silva this season.
