Premier League top: Which leagues have the highest average market value?

Transfermarkt’s market values are renowned across the world and have been cited by some of the biggest clubs. Every player at top leagues and beyond are assigned guide valuations for the transfer fees they would obtain. Players’ market values are updated regularly throughout the season to take into account various factors, including performances and market trends. 

Transfermarkt’s market values were first established in October 2004 and celebrated their 20th anniversary last year. Erling Haaland and Vinicius Jr are currently the most valuable players in the world at €200m but that’s likely to change with updates arriving later this month. 17 players are currently valued at €100m or higher with Manchester City boasting the most valuable squad in the world at €1.31 billion. But which league boasts the players with the highest average market value? Let’s find out. 

Which league has the highest average market value?

The English Premier League is comfortably the most valuable on the planet at €11.86b and the 539 players have an average market value of €21.99m. Haaland is the most valuable Premier League player, followed by Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka at €150m with eight players currently valued at €100m or higher. As the graphic below illustrates, the average market value of a Premier League player is almost double that of second placed LaLiga.

 The average market of a player in the Spanish top-flight is €11.07m, with 480 players totalling €5.32b. The Bundesliga (€9.19m) pips Serie A (€9.03m) into third place, with Ligue 1 (€7.85m) ensuring the top five leagues occupy the top five places. The Brasileiro is the first non-European league to feature in the list with the Brazilian top-flight taking eighth place. The English Championship is the only second-tier league on the list and ranks ahead of the MLS and Saudi Pro League.
