Who has been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season?

David Raya

Raya has enjoyed an excellent season since joining Arsenal on-loan from Brentford and Mikel Arteta will sign his fellow Spaniard permanently this summer. It quickly became clear that Raya would be number one and he’s a massive upgrade on Aaron Ramsdale. Arsenal boast the best defence in the league, conceding just 28 goals – five less than Man City – and Raya will be the recipient of the Golden Glove award after recording 16 clean sheets.

Alisson

Liverpool were undefeated in the ten league games that Alisson missed through injury but the Brazilian remains an integral player. The 31-year-old has only recorded seven clean sheets in 26 games and he’s conceded 27 goals. Liverpool have suffered injury issues at full-back and while Caoimhin Kelleher deputised well in Alisson’s absence, the Brazilian is still a top class operator.

Ederson

Ederson has been a consistent performer for Manchester City as they close in on their fourth consecutive title. City’s attacking players usually dominate the headlines but their defensive stability has been the cornerstone to their success under Pep Guardiola. Ederson remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he’s recorded ten clean sheets in 32 games.

Emiliano Martínez

The charismatic goalkeeper enjoys hero status at Villa Park and he’s been a colossus for Aston Villa in their quest for Champions League football. Martínez is one of the leaders in Villa’s dressing room and the Argentine World Cup winner has regularly pulled off big saves for Unai Emery’s men this season. Martínez has recorded eight clean sheets and he will be a big factor in Villa securing Champions League football.

Jordan Pickford

The spotlight is constantly on Pickford given his standing as England’s number one goalkeeper but he’s been superb for Everton this season. Pickford has recorded the second-most clean sheets in the league with 13 and he’s played every minute for the Toffees. Pickford’s shot-stopping ability is sometimes questioned but he has stepped up for Sean Dyche’s men and was excellent as Everton recorded a famous derby win over Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Guglielmo Vicario

Vicario was a revelation after joining Tottenham in the summer from Empoli. While the Italian’s performance levels have dropped in recent weeks, Vicario is often left exposed by Ange Postecoglou’s incredibly attacking philosophy. Vicario has conceded 59 goals in 36 games but he’s still enjoyed an impressive first season in English football.
