There’s a number of top players entering the last year of their contracts. The prospect of losing valuable assets for free will spark panic amongst senior club figures and decisions will need to be made on their futures.
Some may try to convince them to sign new deals while others could look to sell this summer to avoid them leaving for nothing. The free agent market is extremely attractive to potential buyers and they’ll be able to officially approach players when they’ve just six months left on their contracts. With so many players now having less than 12 months of their deals, we’ve analysed the most valuable players with contracts expiring in the summer of 2025.
The most valuable free agents in 2025
Two players are out of contract next summer with valuations of €70m – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Leroy Sané. There’s been a period of uncertainty at Liverpool after Jürgen Klopp’s surprise decision to depart the club in the summer but the Anfield hierarchy will be desperate for academy graduate Alexander-Arnold to stay. The 25-year-old is the most valuable right-back in the world and Real Madrid have been linked with a potential move next summer. Sané experienced injury issues last season but he remains a top class winger when fit. The German international will play under his former Manchester City teammate Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich next season and he’s expressed his desire to sign a new deal.
As the graphic above illustrates, Mohamed Salah ranks third on the list at €55m. The Egyptian has been a revelation for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017, scoring 211 goals in 349 appearances. Liverpool rebuffed interest from Saudi Arabia last summer but their resolve could be tested again as they are unlikely to sanction a new deal for Salah given his wage demands. Lille sensation Leny Yoro is viewed as a generational talent and Real Madrid are winning the race to sign the 18-year-old. Madrid are also in pole position to sign Alphonso Davies but Bayern remain hopeful that the Canadian could still extend his stay in Germany. Three Munich players feature in the top ten as Joshua Kimmich ranks 10th and big decisions will be made this summer, while Premier League duo Conor Gallagher and Ivan Toney have been strongly linked with moves to other English clubs.
