RB Leipzig have signed Xaxi Simons from PSG on a permanent deal with the Netherlands international penning a deal until 2027. It’s been widely reported that Leipzig have paid an initial fee of €50 million with a potential €30m in add-ons. If all those add-ons are achieved then the fee would reach €80m, making Simons the second most expensive Bundesliga signing in history behind Harry Kane (€95m).
The 21-year-old has already enjoyed an impressive career for his age and he first joined Leipzig on-loan for the 2023/24 season, providing 21 goal contributions. Simons returned again on-loan in the summer but he’s now committed his long-term future to the Bundesliga side. Speaking on the permanent deal, Simons said: “I’ve always said that I feel extremely at home in Leipzig and that I’m honored by the appreciation shown towards me by the club. Over the coming weeks and months, I will be able to freely pursue our joint aims of qualifying for the Champions League for the seventh straight season, and of reaching the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin – those are the only things that matter right now!”

Xavi Simons becomes third most expensive January 2025 signing
Simons has attracted interest from major European clubs across the last few windows and it represents a coup for Leipzig to secure him on a long-term deal. The initial €50m fee is Leipzig’s record signing – eclipsing the €40m outlay on Lois Openda – and that figure will likely rise in the future. Moreover, Simons’ arrival represents the third most expensive deal completed this January behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s €70m move to PSG and Manchester City’s €75m acquisition of Omar Mamoush.
