Liverpool fans have plenty to be cheerful for at the moment. Fresh off the back of winning their 20th English league title in Arne Slot’s first season at the club, the Anfield club look set to spend the summer transfer window adding to a team that went relatively unopposed in the Premier League. With Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez & Co. reportedly set to join in the coming months, fans of the club will be dreaming of another league title and perhaps further success in the Champions League to boot. But before audacious plans for next season can be put into place, let’s take a look back at which players truly thrived under Slot over the course of the last eight months and which ones perhaps didn’t.

The Liverpool players with the biggest market value gains this season

While most Liverpool fans would point to Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk as their best player this season, both stars are now over the age of 30 and as such their market value can’t increase more. This, in turn, has allowed other Liverpool players to garner some much-needed praise and attention and as a result we can present a number of other stars in Slot’s team that also had impressive campaigns with the Anfield club.

Liverpool biggest upgrades

In defence the Anfield club have two defenders that continue to go from strength to strength with the club in Ibrahima Konaté and Conor Bradley. Konaté’s iron-clad partnership with Van Dijk has made him an invaluable member of Slot’s defence, while Bradley’s impressive performances when offered the chance at a starting role suggest that Liverpool may have little issue replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold next season. As such, both players have seen their market values increase by €15 million this season. Just above the defensive duo is Cody Gakpo, who went from a bit of an underwhelming utility player under Jürgen Klopp to being Slot’s first-choice option on the left wing. Across all competitions this season the Dutch forward bagged 18 goals and seven assists in 49 games for Liverpool and as a result saw his market value increase by €20m. Which is a notable change from the €10m drop in market value that he saw during his first season at Anfield.

However, when it comes to the biggest increases in market value this season, nobody at Liverpool can match the performances of Slot’s midfielders. Alexis Mac Allister epitomised the club’s hard-working ethos from one week to the next and saw his market value increase by €25m to €100m – making the Argentine box-to-box talent the most valuable South American player in Premier League history. But just above him with an impressive €40m increase in market value is Ryan Gravenberch, who saw his market value more than double due to his invaluable performances in Slot’s midfield. That now makes the 23-year-old talent the third most valuable player in Slot’s team and the most valuable Dutch player in the world.

The Liverpool players with the biggest market value losses this season

Unfortunately, not everything went to plan at Liverpool this season. While the club did win the Premier League, they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round to Plymouth, lost the League Cup final to Newcastle and failed to get past Paris Saint-Germain in the Last 16 of the Champions League. And over the course of the season we saw a number of Slot’s first team players lose market value for one reason or another.

Liverpool biggest downgrades

Naturally, the most obvious reason for a player to lose market value is age and that’s exactly what happened to Alisson (32 years old) and Andy Robertson (31), who lost €8m and €10m in market value respectively. The other main way for a player to lose market value is injury or poor performances and in the case of Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa their seasons were dogged by both. Jota’s market value fell by €10m this season due to him featuring in just 37% of Liverpool’s league games this season, while Chiesa saw €21m fall off his market value due to him making just six appearances for his new club after signing from Juventus for just €12m.

However, the player that undoubtedly saw the biggest drop in his stock at the Anfield club this season was Darwin Núñez. Over the course of the season the Uruguay forward managed just 14 goals and assists in 47 games for Liverpool and was clearly excluded from Slot’s first-team plans, having started just 21% of the club’s games in the Premier League. That, unfortunately, led to Núñez’s market value falling by €25m to where it now stands at €45m and it seems more than likely that he’ll be sold this summer and be tasked with improving his market value at another club next season.
