Real Madrid President Florentino Peréz addressed the media this afternoon in a fiery speech at his critics. “I am NOT resigning. I am calling for new elections at the club”, he said. “There are campaigns against me. But I’m still here and I’m the president. People said I have cancer, this is all made up.There’s a campaign against me and I’m calling elections, because Real Madrid is of the socios. I work day and night as an animal for Real Madrid.” Peréz was re-elected in 2025, and has been in his position since 2009.

Real Madrid are about to go trophyless for a second consecutive season, and have had a turbulent couple of weeks. They lost the El Clásico to Barcelona, which saw the Catalan club claim the LaLiga title, whilst a huge training ground bust up between Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouaméni caused more bad PR for the club. When Peréz was addressing the media, he also cited Transfermarkt’s world-renowned market values in his defence. “We have the highest-rated squad according to Transfermarkt. We have it all. Why some media criticise us?” he said.

As the eagle-eyed Peréz noted, Real Madrid currently have the most valuable squad in the world on Transfermarkt at €1.34 billion. Kylian Mbappé is currently the world’s joint most valuable player at €200 million, whilst Vinicius Junior (€150m), Jude Bellingham (€140m), and Valverde (€120m) all boast values north of €100m. However, in the upcoming Transfermarkt market value updates, there could be some downgrades to take into account recent performances and whether Real Madrid hold on to that mantle remains to be seen. Wide reports suggest that José Mourinho could be back in the dugout once again next season, although nothing is confirmed as of yet.
