Andreas Skov Olsen has completed a move to Scottish Premiership giants Rangers. On Friday the Ibrox club confirmed the signing of the 26-year-old Wolfsburg winger. Transfermarkt understands that the Scottish side also have an option to make the move permanent in the summer transfer window. The right winger was signed from Club Brugge a year ago for €14 million, but failed to impress. The Dane has made only ten appearances this season, six of them in the starting line-up, partly due to injuries. Skov Olsen’s market value has fallen from €16m to €10m since joining Wolfsburg.
“I’m very excited. I’m very happy that it’s done and I’m so excited to meet all the players, fans and the rest of the club,” said the new Rangers signing on a club statement. “Rangers are the biggest club in Scotland with a huge history. It has huge traditions and is a very old club. When I finally heard that I had the opportunity to come here, I wasn’t in doubt for a second. I want to come here to try help win trophies with the rest of the team, do my best, and have a great time here.”
Skov Olsen to Rangers – What to expect
At Rangers, he will link up with German coach Danny Röhl, who took over the 55-time Scottish champions in October and has since averaged 1.89 points per game in 19 games. Indeed, under the German, Rangers have climbed to second place in the standings and although they have one game in hand, are within touching distance of league leaders Hearts.
Skov Olsen, who becomes the third most valuable player in the Rangers squad, is supposed to help with the second half of the season push towards a potential title. Although the Dane struggled in Germany, much of that was due to the difficult environment he found himself in at Wolfsburg. Although a big spender, the Volkswagen-owned club has seen significant turmoil over the last few seasons, underlined by the 8-1 smashing they received at Bayern Munich last weekend.
With that in mind, there is a chance Rangers have found a bargain by signing Skov Olsen with an option to buy this winter. A powerful winger who can both score and assist, the Danish national team player showed his capabilities at Club Brugge, where he scored 49 goals and 30 assists in 124 games across all competitions. If used correctly, Skov Olsen can blossom once again and reverse his current decline in market value.
