195 players updated

Lautaro Martínez is no longer a €100 million player. The most valuable player in Italy’s Serie A saw his market value drop from €100m to €95m as part of Transfermarkt’s Serie A market value update. Altogether, 195 players saw their market values adjusted, and Inter Milan were among the clubs with the most significant drop in market value (-€18m). Indeed, only city rivals AC Milan (-€46.5m) saw a bigger drop in squad value as part of the market value update.

The Argentine forward has struggled against top teams this season and could no longer justify his €100m market value. “Even though his rate, especially in the Champions League, has increased since the last update in December, we are missing the exceptional form from last season,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Italy Jatin Dietl said. “That’s why the market value has dropped below the €100m mark.” But Martínez wasn’t the only prominent downgrade. Playmaker Hakan Çalhanoğlu struggled with fitness this season, and his market value dropped from €40m to €35m. Then there is defender Benjamin Pavard. The Frenchman has struggled all season, and his market value dropped by €10m to €30m.
It wasn’t all bad news at Inter Milan, however. Denzel Dumfries, for example, has been in the best form of his career and saw his market value increase from €20m to €28m. “Mentally, he has made a big step forward,” Dietl said. “That has allowed him to be more consistent this season.” Another player with an upgrade is center-back Alessandro Bastoni. With a market value increase of €5m to €80m, Bastoni, together with Arsenal’s William Saliba, is now the most valuable defender on the planet. “Bastoni is one of the main reasons Inter, despite playing against the likes of Man City and Arsenal, have conceded just two goals in the Champions League,” Dietl said.
Serie A: Biggest market value losers include Vlahović and Maignan
As mentioned, AC Milan, the club of USMNT star Christian Pulisic, is the only club with a bigger drop in squad value than Inter. The Rossoneri have struggled in Serie A and could miss out on European football. Theo Hernández (-€10m to €40m) and Mike Maignan (-€10m to €25m) are entirely out of form. Then there is winter signing João Félix (-€5m to €25m). The Portuguese midfielder is still struggling to regain the form that made him once the most sought-after player in European football and, as a result, has dropped to the lowest market value since the spring of 2019.
Juventus, too, has seen its squad value drop significantly. Juve, in fact, is the club with the biggest loser in terms of squad value: Dušan Vlahović. The Serbian forward saw his market value drop by €15m to now €45m. That’s his lowest market value since the fall of 2021. “Under head coach Thiago Motta, the 25-year-old has struggled for playing time and since the arrival of Randal Kolo Muani has at times sat on the bench for the entire 90 minutes,” Dietl said. “It is an odd situation; Juve would be well advised not to let the market value drop further as they hope to sell the player before his contract expires in 2026.
Another player who has struggled at Juve is summer signing Teun Koopmeiners. The attacking midfielder has struggled in Motta’s system and never reached the form that he showed at Atalanta. The Dutchman saw his market value drop by €10m to €40m. Together with Douglas Luiz, Koopmeiners was supposed to lead Juve’s midfield. However, the Brazilian is often injured and has an even more significant drop in market value than his Dutch teammate. Signed for €70m from Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz has now been downgraded for a third time and is now listed at €38m rather than €45m.
Serie A market values: Lookman up – Retegui, Diao & Paz the biggest winners
Despite going out early in the Champions League, Koopmeiners’ former club, Atalanta, continues to be a fantastic story. One name that stands out is Ademola Lookman, whose market value increased by another 9.1% from €55m to €60m. “Despite the surprising elimination from the Champions League, Atalanta is having an outstanding season and is still in the title race,” Dietl said. “One of, or probably the main reasons for this is Lookman. The Nigerian likely has the best and most consistent season of his career and has announced that he wants to leave the club in the summer. A year ago, the Nerazzurri were asking for 65-70 million, and if the rumors are true, several top clubs from Italy and England could be lining up for him this summer.”
Lookman isn’t the only outstanding player at Atalanta. Another name to watch is Mateo Retegui. The Argentine, who represents Italy internationally, leads the Italian first division in scoring with 22 goals in 27 games. Signed for €20.9m from Genoa last summer, Retegui has been an unbelievable signing for Atalanta. Together with Fiorentina’s Moise Kean (+€10m to €40m) and Pietro Comuzzo (+€10m to €25m) as well as Bologna’s Santiago Castro (+€10m to €35m), Retegui is among the biggest winners of the market value update.
Como 1907 talents Nico Paz and Assane Diao are the biggest winners of the update. The Como talents saw their market values increase by €15m to €35m and €16m to €25m respectively. “Diao joined Como for €12m from Real Betis and has been an incredible signing,” Dietl said. “Originally a part of Spain’s youth setup, he now represents Senegal and is now part of the senior team there. Paz, in the meantime, is part of Argentina’s senior team. He benefits from playing with Diao; no other player has seen such a rapid development. When looking at the underlying stats, he is among the top players in the league.”
Serie A: Ferguson back up – Former NYCFC star Castellanos one to watch
Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson saw his market value return to his personal best after receiving a downgrade in December. “Lewis has fully recovered from his long-term injury since the beginning of the year and is once again showing the qualities and performances crucial for Bologna’s Champions League qualification last year,” Dietl said. “As a result, his market value is returning to its previous level, and by the end of the season, he could even reach his record market value if he maintains the form of his recent performances.” Ferguson is now back at €24m.
Finally, former Major League Soccer top goalscorer Taty Castellanos continues to excel for Lazio. “He’s not a classic finisher, but an attacker who knows how to make the team play well and can still contribute with a good number of goals and assists,” Dietl said. “He made important progress during the season and could have an important market in the next transfer window.” The 26-year-old has scored nine goals and five assists in 22 Serie A games this season and sees his market value increase by €5m to now €25m.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm ( you can find the detailed market value definition here ).
