Bayern Munich regained their stranglehold of German football this season, with Vincent Kompany winning the Bundesliga title in his first season at the club by a comfortable 13-point lead over Bayer Leverkusen. While the Munich giants were unable to match that with success in the German Cup or Champions League, few in Germany would doubt that the Belgian tactician brought a degree of consistency back to Bayern’s domestic dealings that was sorely missing during last season’s turbulent campaign under Thomas Tuchel.

While Kompany will be able to turn to a number of players for special thanks in helping Bayern to their 34th league title – such as the defensive stalwart Dayot Upamecano, midfield maestro Joshua Kimmich or attacking playmaker Michael Olise – no player garnered as much attention and hype thanks to his goal than star striker Harry Kane. And that has undoubtedly been illustrated in this season’s awards, with Transfermarkt users voting the England international as their player of the season for the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign.

Indeed, Kane has been nothing but extraordinary in front of goal for Bayern this season, bagging no less than 26 goals and 10 assists in 31 league games for Bayern. That, unsurprisingly, put him top of the list of total goal contributions in the German top-flight, with the England striker finishing the league campaign with six more than second-placed Olise. And when we compare Kane to all other forward players across Europe’s top five leagues he comes second only to Mohamed Salah (47 goals and assists) for total goal contributions, finishing above Kylian Mbappé (34) in third place.

Such was Kane’s success on the pitch for Bayern this season that he dominated the voting for the Bundesliga player of the season among Transfermarkt users. As we can see in the graphic, the No.9 picked up more than twice the votes that were cast for second-placed Florian Wirtz, who earned plenty of plaudits at Leverkusen this season. The German international pipped Olise to second by less than one percent of the votes, while fellow Bayern star Jamal Musiala came fourth with 8.6%. Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy, who actually scored more goals from open play than Kane in the Bundesliga this season, took fifth place with 8% of the vote.
